NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 Rumored for Late-August Release
With the recent release of the GF104 based GTX 460, NVIDIA has shown what a bit more design time with its latest generation architecture can do, cutting down on power requirements and heat when compared to GF100 but still maintaining highly competitive performance. It is now being rumored that the next 400 series card to be released will be the GF106 based GTS 450, supposedly due by the end of August. This will be another step down the price and performance chain for NVIDIA, which is important for GPU manufacturers as cheaper cards are likely to shift considerably more units than the high-end enthusiast parts.
Not much is know about the GF106 and therefore the GTS 450, but it is expected to go up against the HD 5770, with pricing possibly in the $150-170 region. The one piece of information that is being talked about is that it is expected to feature 1GB of GDDR5 memory tied to a 128-bit interface, so there is plenty of room for speculation at the moment. As with other 400 series cards, it is said that NVIDIA will be allowing its board partners to make their own non-reference designs, good news for those of us who like a good range of performance and pricing options, but potentially a little confusing for those who haven't got time to do some research before they buy. We look forward to seeing if NVIDIA can score another hit.
