Catch Up on the StarCraft Story
In just one week, Blizzard will show all the naysayers that PC gaming is not even close to dead - StarCraft II, the sequel to one of the most successful and popular computer games of all time, releases on July 27th. Released over twelve years ago, the original StarCraft is lauded by many as the best real-time strategy game ever created. StarCraft introduced gamers to three distinct and balanced races, and few games have been able to accomplish that feat since.
Although multiplayer is what kept StarCraft in the forefront of gaming after all these years, especially in South Korea where it's practically a national pastime, the single player portion of the game was nothing to scoff at. For those gamers who sadly never played the original game and its expansion, StarCraft: Brood War, or for those, like myself, that played it so long ago, the story is a bit fuzzy, there are several sites that can help you out. One such site is Kotaku, which has provided links to cinematic videos within its summary.
If you haven't played the original games or simply need a refresher, you have one week to catch up. Although you may be eager to hop on Battle.Net and get into some multiplayer action right away, don't overlook the single player campaign. The lore that Blizzard has established in the StarCraft universe is top notch, and odds are, StarCraft II will continue that trend.
