Samsung today shipped its Spinpoint MT2 mobile hard drive series. The new series is intended as an internal storage solution for use in portable hard drives, media recorders or laptops. The MT2 runs at 5400RPM backed by an 8MB buffer. Other features include 333GB of data per platter along with the Samsung SilentSeek and NoiseGuard technologies for a quiet storage or playback experience. I.C. Park, vice president of storage marketing at Samsung Electronics commented:
"The new Spinpoint MT2 drive offers the largest capacity in what has previously been offered as an option for portable digital devices. As the total storage solution provider, Samsung is committed to offering products that features exceptional performance and value across a wide range of computing and consumer electronics markets."
Samsung claims that the MT2 "delivers about 20% increased read/write performance and 4% lower power consumption compared with competitive drives."
The drive can resist 400G (1ms) of shock while in use or 800G (2ms) when turned off. A 12.5mm form factor allows easy and efficient storage, with a SATA 3Gbps interface and Native Command Queuing capability for enhanced performance. The Samsung MT2 series hard drives are available immediately in 750GB and 1TB models.
