Nintendo 3DS Revealed

It had been rumored for months and now at Nintendo's E3 press conference the company has officially shown off its 3DS handheld. The 3DS will allow anyone to take 3D gaming with them on the go without needing any active shutter glasses. The handheld looks just like a regular DS Lite or DSi, except the topscreen is 3.5 inches and can display in 3D. There is a slider on the side that will allow you to adjust the intensity of the 3D by altering the depth of it depending on how far away you are. You can also use that slider to turn the 3D effect off if you wish. The bottom screen is still a touchscreen so that has not changed.

On the bottom portion, there is what looks like an analog stick that Nintendo is calling a "Slide Pad." There are also going to be two cameras to allow for 3D photos which should look pretty cool on the top screen. The 3DS will have a gyroscope and motion sensor built in. The system will work just fine with all existing DS games but Nintendo is promising a ton of developer support for 3D titles. Disney is onboard and showed off a new Kid Icarus game which looked really nice in 3D. Titles from other developers include Madden, Resident Evil, Ninja Gaiden, Splinter Cell, a Batman title, and a Metal Gear Solid title. DLC is sure to be a part of these games and more and the 3DS will apparently be able to pull DLC from other systems without requiring you to sign up for a monthly fee.

No word on availabilty or pricing was announced at this time. The system was shown off in two colors, red and blue, and I expect we will see more colors before long.
