In a recent discussion with Frank Pearce, an executive vice president at Blizzard, he revealed that the company is optimistic about the growth potential of World of Warcraft. The game has been unable to surpass 11.5 million subscribers since it reached that number in 2008. Frank believes that the upcoming expansion Cataclysm, along with the release of Wrath of the Lich King in China will bring new players and hopefully attract old players back to the game. The number of subscribers is still very large, but from a financial standpoint growth is always good. Especially for parent company Activision which has been having trouble with its Call of Duty franchise.

I've never tried it, nor do I ever intend to. That being said, of course growth is always good in any industry, but it's really not that important for an MMO like WoW. Simply maintaining a subscriber-base is sufficient to generate a buttload of money.
