Microsoft Launches Office 2010
The Office series of software makes up a large component of Microsoft's product offerings and has been a major revenue driver for the company for a number years. With online tools such as Google Docs now providing a free alternative to Office software, Microsoft's latest release needed address this competition. Though Google's offerings haven't made a big impact in terms of market share, the inclusion of the Office Web Apps part of the Office 2010 release show that Microsoft is taking the challenge seriously, offering free versions of programs like Word, Excel and PowerPoint (naturally you won't get all the features found in the full versions). As with Windows 7, MS chose to involve end users more closely in the testing process, with the Office 2010 Beta program meaning that many of you will have probably used the software already in some form or another.
Office 2010, as well as Visio 2010 and Project 2010 are available for businesses worldwide from today. Home users will have to wait until 15th of June for the retail version. You can watch the keynote presentation that accompanied the release on Microsoft's Launch Event site.
