Nintendo Wii Sales Down 21%
Well, it seems Nintendo's money printing machine, uh, I mean, the Wii, is finally starting to slow down in sales. Nintendo released its annual fiscal report early this morning, and it seems that both the Wii and DS are down in sales, with the Wii dropping 21% over last year. From the financial year running April 2008 to March 2009, Nintendo sold 25.95 million Wiis. For the recent year running April 2009 to March 2010, Nintendo only sold 20.53 million Wiis. It is still a huge amount of systems sold, but it is a 21% drop from the previous year. In that same time, the Nintendo DS also dropped in sales, from 31 million down to 27 million which is not bad but it is a 12% drop. That is kind of to be expected considering the DS is approaching the six year mark of its life. The Wii though is sure to give Nintendo cause for concern, the system is coming up on the four year mark this November. Fiscal projections for the current year that ends March 2011 do not look good for the Wii either, with sales projected to be down to 18 million units. Software sales are also down as well, 6% for the Wii and 23% for the DS. But, even with this large of a sales drop, Nintendo still managed to have its third-best year in history.
