AMD has just returned fire at Intel with the release of the Phenom II X6 1090T six-core processor. As you recall, we took a look at the first desktop six-core processor last month with the release of the Intel Core i7 980X. Now it's AMD's turn with the Phenom II X6 1090T clocked at 3.2 GHz. This is a socket AM3 processor based on the 45nm manufacturing process with a maximum TDP of 125 watts. The 1090T has a total of 9MB cache - 6MB shared L3 cache and 3MB L2 cache, 512KB per core. Like its Phenom II brethren, it can support both DDR2 memory up to 1066Mhz and DDR3 memory up to 1333MHz. The chip also comes with a new feature called Turbo Core which allows the processor to shut down half the cores when they're not needed and automatically increase clock speed from the standard 3.2GHz to 3.6GHz. AT $285, the Phenom II X6 1090T represents a tremendous value when compared to the $999 price of the Intel Core i7 980X. Check out the reviews below for the full story.
