B&N Nook Headed to Best Buy; Kindle Headed to Target
Bookstores Amazon and Barnes & Noble are both set to bring their eBook readers to major retail stores later this month, a sign that the companies may be a little worried about Apple's supersized iPod Touch and eBook reader. The iPad, which has been called a "Kindle Killer" by some is rumored to have sold more than 556,000 units in less than a week. Expect the number to skyrocket later this month when Apple releases the 3G version of the iPad and also begins selling the device outside of the US.
The Nook from Barnes & Noble, which looks like a cross between an iPod Touch and a Kindle will be on sale at Best Buy stores starting April 18. Previously the Nook was only available through the B&N website or select B&N stores. Best Buy is also caries the iPad and Sony's eReader.
Amazon's Kindle, which is currently only available through Amazon.com, will appear on shelves at Target beginning April 25. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw the Kindle hardware die out, and Amazon switch focus to offering the Kindle software and service through its desktop and mobile applications.
