Despite the fact that Blu-ray has been around for some time, and has given multimedia enthusiasts an even more in-depth high definition experience, the Blu-ray Disc Association has announced format enhancements. The main improvements include two new formats being introduced, known as BDXL as well as IH-BD. For commercial users, the BDXL format will be highly sought after, as it will support new 100GB and 128GB discs, along with rewritable 100GB discs. Concerning the other format that will be introduced, named IH-BD, or Intra-Hybrid Blu-ray Disc, it will be focused mainly towards everyday consumers. The IH-BD format will feature a BD-ROM layer that can only be read and not written upon, but it will hold a BD-R layer as well, that users can put their own data onto. These enhancements are said to be brought into the market within the next few months, though a more exact date and time is not currently known, nor is price of either of the new formats.
