Well, it seems that older, or "fat", Playstation 3 consoles will soon lose the ability to install another operating system. The next update to the PS3, Firmware 3.21, will cut out the ability on all consoles to install another OS, like Linux. The update will launch on April 1st, which may seem like an April Fool's Joke, but Sony has reassured people it is an actual update. The main reason the ability is on the cutting floor? "Security concerns" is the one given, though it feels a bit forced. I do not like the loss of the option to install another OS, even though I haven't used the feature, but I am sure other people will be quite upset at this news. You can, of course, decide to skip the update but you will lose out on access to the Playstation Network and online multiplayer games.
So what do you guys think? Is the loss of the 'install other OS' feature a dealbreaker or can you go without having Linux on your PS3?
