Gabe Newell of Valve was awarded with the Pioneer Award at the Game Developer's Choice Awards. He used the opportunity to speak about DRM and the future of gaming. The Steam distribution service created by Valve acts as a form of DRM, in exchange for the convenience of having your games available on any computer. However, Gabe stated that the goal of DRM isn't to create problems. It wasn't mentioned by him, but the recent Ubisoft situation comes to mind. Gabe also commented on future involvement of biometrics in gaming, and credited the Wii with starting the movement. He mentioned measuring a users heart rate and pupil dilation as future possibilities.
