Apple Feels Sting From Piracy
Developers for the Apple App Store are feeling the same pressure from piracy as their larger PC and console counterparts. The lost revenue is estimated to be $450 million, $140 million of which would go to Apple. That leaves more than $300 million not going to the developers of these apps. This was all made possible by the introduction of jail breaking. Users with jailbroken phones are able to install unapproved apps and apps that haven't been paid for. This number is likely skewed due to unreliable estimations of actual piracy numbers. While it is possible that it isn't as bad as suggested, developers are certain to feel even the smallest loss of revenue.
