Seagate has announced that its Black Armor series of external hard drives will be making the jump to USB 3.0. This represents the next step in the evolution of USB, and allows for speeds up to 5Gbit/s. The drive is a 2.5-inch 500GB model with 2 platters. The Black Armor PS110 also comes with a USB 3.0 Performance Kit, which will allow computers without USB 3.0 to take advantage of the new speeds. Seagate claims to have reached transfer speeds of 100MB/s during testing, making file transfers and backup much faster. Also in the package is the Acronis backup software, allowing for easy backup of your files. The drive retails for $179.99 and is compatible with the last 3 iterations of Windows.
