Just as the holiday shopping season is getting underway, Microsoft has pulled the family pack promotion for Windows 7. Consumers were able to get 3 licenses for the new OS for $50 each. Users will now be faced with a $120 upgrade price. The only motivation here is that Microsoft wants more money for every copy it sells. The family pack was a great deal while it lasted, and it still doesn't entirely make sense to me. By offering this cheap option, Microsoft could further expand the install base and get more users away from XP and Vista.
