As the open source community grows as a whole and more users are looking for cheap and free software in a tough economy, the sheer number of users is rising and has been for some time. Firefox, just one of the open source web browsers on the Internet along with various freeware browsers, has just now received the title of the most used browser in Germany. A local consulting firm has done the study, and showed that Firefox currently holds 45.6 percent of the market share in the country, while Internet Explorer accounts for just around 44.4 percent. The lead is marginal, and due to the firm being local and possibly not the best source of reliable numbers, the exact information may not be correct. Internet Explorer has slowly been declining concerning the mass number of users in Germany though, ever since the release of Firefox five years ago. Currently, the Microsoft browser leads Mozilla’s software Internet browser by roughly 25 percent worldwide, but is slowly taking over in multiple countries.
