The Motorola Droid, which runs on the Android operating system, will be available for purchase starting November 6. The phone will be available for $199 with a $100 rebate, and the customary 2 year contract. In addition, users will need a voice and data plan with the phone, amounting to a minimum of $70 per month. The Droid will be the first available smartphone to feature Android 2.0, the latest incarnation of the operating system from Google. Verizon will be promoting the phone through its biggest marketing campaign to date.

The commercial for it was great. I don't think I'll be switching from my Iphone anytime soon though. :(

Droid looks slick. I'd be tempted to get one, but I've gotta be honest... I love my iPhone. Hopefully, the Droid will push Apple to do more with the 4.0 iPhone OS.

I'm really liking what I see with the Droid. Unlike you gents, I don't have a fancy iPhone. The transition from my Razr should be a great one. And even better, I'll be able to switch to Verizon from AT&T.

I haven't read anything about networks outside the US, but I believe the phone is also known as the Sholes if that helps your search.

I google'd it and there is a GSM version, although I wonder what the price tag will be and when it will be available.
