As expected Barnes and Noble yesterday announced the Nook eReader, a device that some are calling the Kindle-killer and for good reason, B&N has made it clear they are targeting the Kindle. In addition to an E Ink display for reading content, which it calls the most advanced, the Nook also includes a 3.5" color touch screen than can be used for navigation and swiping through your library. The device will allow you access to over a million titles, including books, magazines, and newspapers via AT&T's 3G network, or the built in 802.11 b/g wireless. Free WiFi will also be provided at all B&N stores. The 2GB storage is good for approximately 1,500 eBooks and can be extended to 16GB via a microSD card.
One feature that caught my eye is the Nook will allow you to lend eBooks to friends for free. There isn't any elaboration on this feature, so some restrictions may apply when the device is actually released.
You can pre-order the Nook for $259 from B&N. Sorry, it's US only for now.
