Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox, has recently stated that he doesn't trust Valve. The developer behind the upcoming Borderlands feels that Valve's position of developer and distributor could cause a conflict of interest. He feels that Valve could use its position to exploit third party developers. However, numerous other developers that use Steam have expressed the exact opposite feelings. Independent developers behind hits such as World of Goo and Audiosurf have expressed that Valve was key in the success of their games. The digital distribution model coupled with the large install base provided them with an optimal way to get the games out.
