There Is An App For That, And That, And That, And That...

If you've seen any of Apple's commercials for the iPhone or iPod Touch, you've probably heard Apple's key phrases "there is an app for that" and "there is an app for just about anything". Now that Apple's App Store has passed two billion app downloads, they are out to prove that there really is an app for anything with the new "Apps for Everything" section on their website.

The new website is broken down into "Apps for..." categories, such as Cooks, Music, Fun and Games, managing money and more. Each section is then broken down into more specific areas, and a few apps are listed. Also available are the top 10 free and paid apps for the category.

While Apple says there is an app for just about everything, we know that there are certain things that there are not apps available for. Porn, downloading or managing torrents, Google Voice, Adobe Flash, wallpapers on the home screen or quickly switching system setting.

"While Apple says..." I thought what Apple said was always accurate!

WTH Where's my Death Ray App?

Some of what you listed shouldn't require apps. Wallpaper use on the home screen and Adobe Flash support should be added to the iPhone OS, they shouldn't require an app to use. The latter is a huge negative, IMO.

There really isn't a huge need for Flash with HTML5. I supose it'd be nice to have, but I cannot think of any site I visit on my iPhone that doesn't work because no Flash. In a way, not having it is nice... it's like Safari's own version of AdBlock. :D

Also, flash videos other than YouTube don't work.

While some sites would be nice, like HUlu, I don't watch much videos on my iPhone. Even the YouTube videos. Again though, this is something that could be corrected on the website's end without the need for flash.

Try any of the game sites, like Kongregate. And Facebook games don't work either, like mafia wars.

Mafia wars works fine for me. :p I play on my iPhone on the road all the time.

The facebook version? Last time I tried, it kept popping up a textbox.

The Zynga banner at the top (IIRC) has a text box that it'll go to by default. I just close the keyboard and then scroll around. Was able to fight, do jobs, go to the bank, and buy stuff. I haven't tried since Moscow was released, so something may have changed.

cool, i'll check it out. thanks. farmville is probably out though since that's straight flash.

Yes, I couldn't get into that game. Everything died before I could get back online.

The good thing about Farmville is that you can choose crops based on your play style. If you only frequent FB once a week, plant 4 day crops. Once crops are ripe, you have that amount of time to harvest them as well. So for a 4 day crop, you have 8 days from the time you plant until they die. In that respect, it's better than MW where if you miss a day, you're kinda effing yourself...well, if you care about maximizing your daily potential, that is. lol

Facebook farming is serious business
