Corsair has announced a new pair of DDR3 memory kits for Intel's Core i5 and Core i7 processors. The new modules are available in both dual- and triple channel configurations to support not only existing LGA1366 socket CPUs but also the forthcoming Core i5/i7 Lynnfield processors. The first kit is an 8GB dual-channel set of 4 x 2GB modules (part number CMD8GX3M4A1600C8) optimized for P55 motherboards. The second kit (part number CMD12GX3M6A1600C8) is a triple-channel 12GB made up of six matched 2GB modules, and is optimized for X58 motherboards. Both sets of memory are equipped with Intel XMP profiles and are clocked at 1600MHz with CAS latency settings of 8-8-8-24.
As these are part of the Dominator series of memory, Corsair has equipped the modules with its DHX+ (Dual-path Heat eXchange Plus) technology heatsinks and includes an Airflow fan to keep things cool. In a departure from its previous Dominator series, the new kits sport American Racing Blue fins and highlights (as does the Airflow fan). The fins are removable to accommodate more advance cooling options such as Corsair's Hydro H30 series water-block and Ice series T30 thermo-electric cooler.
“Windows® 7™ early adopters and other power users have recently been demanding 8GB and 12GB performance memory solutions to optimize their computing experience,” stated John Beekley, Vice President of Technical Marketing at Corsair. “These 8GB and 12GB configurations will allow these advanced users to get the most out of their high performance rigs, particularly if they often switch between demanding tasks like gaming and video production.”
Corsair did not provide any information on pricing or when the units would be available. Checking around the web you can find the dual-channel 8GB kits in the $250US price range but not all sites had them in stock yet.
