California based DRAM and flash memory manufacturer, Super Talent today announced its newest innovation: greener, eco-friendly DDR3 RAM. Super Talent's new low-profile series of green DDR3 memory uses 38% less FR4 (fiber glass epoxy substrate - what most PCBs are made of) and 47% less packaging than its standard DDR3 modules. The green memory also features one third less copper and has been tested extensively to meet Super Talents quality standards. Redesigned packaging for the new sticks of memory has cut the use of plastic in half and occupies 57% less volume than the standard packaging. This also means that a packaged module also weighs 35% less, helping lessen the effect on the environment when in transit. The green DIMMs will come in 1066MHz and 1333MHz clock speeds, and in 1GB or 2GB modules. They will begin shipping this September. I think that Super Talent is making a positive step towards greener products, and hopefully smaller products equates to smaller prices!
