It looks like you'll be able to choose to run multi-GPU configurations using Nvidia's SLI technology when the Intel Core i7/i5 LGA1156 socket processors arrive next month. According to Nvidia, Intel, Asus, EVGA, Gigabyte, and MSI have all signed licensing agreements to use the technology on their boards based on the P55 Express chipset. Whatever differences Intel and Nvidia had at one point seem to have been put aside make the X58 and P55 the only non-Nvidia chipset boards capable of running multiple graphics cards using Nvidia's SLI technology (not counting Skulltrail of course). That gives Nvidia full coverage across all the consumer PC platforms, including the Intel Core i7/i5, Core 2 Quad and Core 2 Duo processors and well AMD Phenom II CPU. This means users can choose their board and and then decide whether to go CrossFire or SLI or switch videocard manufacturers at a later date if they want.
