Dell Discontinues 12-inch Netbooks
Dell has officially stopped producing 12-inch netbooks, but will continue to produce 10-inch netbooks. Dell claims that it is because most consumers prefer a 10-inch screen for netbooks, and the 12-inch models require more computing power to run. However, if the screens both run at the same resolution, the larger models should only require more battery power. The trade-off is usually considered to be worth it, as a larger screen is much easier on the eyes. There is some speculation that Intel could be behind the move by Dell, which would likely land them in some sort of regulatory hot water. 12-inch netbooks are leading consumers away from purchasing more expensive dual core machines, which will hurt the bottom line at Intel. Intel has been charging more money for Atom processors based on the screen size of the machine the chips are going in.
