One single Georgian blogger's internet appearance was attacked in a multi-site attack on Thursday, causing Twitter to temporarily go down. The blogger known as "Cyxymu" (which is a town in the Republic of Georgia) was the target of a "simultaneous attack across a number of properties targeting him to keep his voice from being heard", the chief security officer of Facebook Max Kelly said. Investigations are underway to find out from where and by who the attacks came. The nature of the attack was a so-called Distributed Denial Of Service (DDOS) attack, which means that a certain webpage is hit by too many connections at once, making it inaccessible from the web. The requires a lot of hits at one specific time, so it is unlikely that this attack was generated by spam, but much rather by tens of thousands of hijacked computers all bombarding the site at once.
