Microsoft-Yahoo Search Deal Confirmed

Category: Internet
Posted: 12:59PM

Earlier this month it was reported that Microsoft and Yahoo may have been close to completing an internet search and advertising deal. The two companies have now confirmed that this will indeed be going ahead, with the teaming up potentially putting them both in a better position to compete with chief rival Google. As part of the 10 year deal, Microsoft's recently re-branded Bing search engine will power the Yahoo website, with Yahoo getting to keep 88% of revenue from search ad sales on the site. Yahoo will also gain the right to sell ads on some of Microsoft's sites. With MS taking over search duties however, Yahoo can expect to face some redundancies, though some may find themselves transferring to Microsoft or finding other roles within the company. The combination should give the two companies a 30% share of the US search ad market, still less than half the share Google maintains.
