Back in May, Intel was hit with a huge $1.45 billion fine by the EU for evidence of what appeared to be anti-competitive practises. Intel was said to have abused its dominant market position by offering incentives to companies for not stocking or postponing releases of chips from AMD, its main rival in CPU manufacturing. At the time of the verdict Intel said that they would appeal against the decision and is now following through on that promise. Chuck Mulloy, spokesman for Intel has also said that it still plans to pay the fine, but will get the money back from the EU if it wins the appeal. A spokesperson for the European Commission has called the decision "legally watertight." It took an eight year investigation to gather evidence for the decision, which Intel calls "wrong on many levels."
