Just a short while ago, the race for 128GB thumb drives started. Kingston won the race to ship the first 128GB thumb drive when it released the DataTraveler 200. Kingston has yet again won the race for more storage capacity with the release of its 256GB thumb drive, the DataTraveler 300. The tumb drive boasts a read speed of 20MB/s accompanied by a write speed of 10MB/s. Kingston's included Password Traveler software allows the user to password protect the data on the thumb drive without requiring administrator rights. Windows Vista Ready Boost is also supported by the thumb drive. The dimensions of the thumb drive are on the larger side at 2.78" x 0.67" x 0.87". The DataTraveler 300 is now available for purchase, but carries a hefty price tag of $924. If you wish to order one of these thumb drives, you will have to be patient as Kingston does not stock the DataTraveler 300, but builds each one when an order arrives. However, the thumb drive is currently only available in the UK and Europe.
