Lexar Media has announced the newest release in the line of Crucial solid-state disks (SSDs). The M225 is now the fastest and highest capacity drive available from Crucial. The drive is in the standard 2.5-inch form factor and sports a SATA 2.0 (3Gb/s) connection. MLC NAND flash memory is used for the M225 line and the flagship 256GB model is able to achieve read speeds of 250MB/s and write speeds of 200MB/s (read and write speeds diminish slightly as drive capacity drops). While these speeds are the fastest yet for Crucial, the OCZ Vertex Trubo line still has Crucial beat by a slight margin. The entire M225 line is compatible with the Crucial SK01 External Drive Storage Kit which is sold separately. The kit comes with a 2.5-inch external enclosure, 3.5-inch hot-swappable drive bay, and a 5.25-inch drive bay bracket. Crucial's M225 line will be available in 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB models with pricing slated for $169.99, $329.99, and $599.99 respectively. All drives come with a five year limited warranty and will be available from Crucial's online site and through select channel partners. A full specifications sheet can be found here.
