One common recurrent theme here at OCC when people seek out advice on system builds is to make sure your build includes a good quality power supply. SilverStone has long had several units on the OCC Recommended Power Supplies List and Kingpin and Shamino, two world-class overclockers, recently depended on a pair of SilverStone power supplies to help them set new 3DMark world records.

The duo used liquid helium to cool an Intel Xeon W3540 CPU down to around -240°C on their way to achieving a top speed of 5.0969GHz. Also involved were a pair of NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295 videocards all backed by SilverStone OP1200 and Strider ST1500 power supplies to handle the extra power requirements. The newly released Strider ST1500 is a beast itself with eight +12V rails delivering 25A each through all modular cables. The PSU is rated at 1500W continuous power at 40°C and comes with active PFC and an 80 PLUS Silver certification. That means the ST1500 can deliver 85-88% efficiency over a full 20-100% of its rated load.

Not everyone needs that much power, but its pretty impressive that SilverStone can offer that much capacity for enthusiasts and overclockers who need reliable, steady power at high efficiency levels. You can read more about the record setting run here.
