As overclockers, anything that makes the process a little less painful is always welcome. MSI has previously included instant overclocking buttons on some of its laptop models, but now it is taking a similar approach with desktop motherboards in the form of the OC Genie 'Intelligent OC Processor'. MSI was apparently demonstrating the technology on a P55 based motherboard at the MOA European Final event in Germany over the past couple of days, so we will be looking out for reports of how impressive those demonstrations were. The idea of OC Genie itself is to give you the simple option of instant one button overclocking to improve performance. According to MSI, OC Genie will optimise CPU clocks and voltages as well as memory clocks and voltages to achieve performance and stability.

Now the idea of automatic overclocking isn't a new one, with many motherboards including automatic settings in the BIOS to give those who find manually tweaking options daunting a way to give their systems a boost. These kind of options generally provide something for the casual overclocker, giving a bit of a performance increase but not getting near to the full overclocking potential of manual tweaking and testing. I suspect that OC Genie may fall into a similar category, but it will be intriguing to see how far the option will actually push clockspeeds. You can expect to see it appearing on MSI's P55 product line at first, but it says implementations will also be coming to AMD based platforms.
