Microsoft To Finally Get A Piece Of Yahoo?
It seems that the Microsoft-Yahoo saga isn't quite over yet. Back at the beginning of February last year, Microsoft made a bid for Yahoo in its entirety, with the original offer standing at around $45 billion. As you will likely be aware, Yahoo rejected that initial bid, but it didn't stop negotiation continuing. The possibility of a full takeover did finally break down and Yahoo has faced turmoil since, with big shifts in personnel. It isn't particularly surprising that there are now fresh reports circulating that Microsoft is closing in on a deal with Yahoo, although in the smaller form of a bid for Yahoo's search advertising business. While details are thin on the ground, sources are suggesting that an agreement could be imminent, with speculation that Microsoft could end up paying around $3 billion for Yahoo's search advertising operation. With Google's dominance of the sector and Microsoft's recent revamp of its own search operation under the 'bing' banner, the deal would certainly make sense, potentially giving Microsoft considerably more influence.
