Electronic Arts has officially confirmed that gamers will need to be connected to the internet to play Command & Conquer 4, even the single player campaign. The game, which was announced last week, will provide an end to the Tiberium Saga dealing with the battle between the Global Defense Initiative and the Brotherhood of Nod. The requirement of an internet connection is due to the new player progression feature that will allow EA to track user accomplishments. However, the good news is that gamers won't need a fast connection, and even a dial-up internet connection would suffice. Regardless of how fast the connection needs to be, many users will undoubtedly be inconvenienced by this move.

How lame can this get. They wont get my business. Not everyone interested will have an always on connection so they have cut their market considerably. Shame on EA!

I've never really played C&C, but have heard good things about it. This would definitely make me think twice about purchasing the game. I think it has more to do with DRM-like activities as was mentioned in the article.

Didn't someone just say that EA reversed direction in the Starcraft 2 thread? Yeah, fuck EA. Fuck them till they bleed.
