There have been rumors circulating within the Apple crowds since March that Apple will release a netbook. March saw two Taiwan-based magazines, Commercial Times/DigiTimes, speculate that Apple would release a touchscreen netbook in the third quarter. This rumor was taken lightly because the magazines are generally correct about Taiwan-based companies, but can be terribly wrong about US-based companys' plans. However, China Times has brought the rumor back with its speculation that Apple will release a 9.7-inch netbook in October. There are reports that Apple has placed orders with Wintek and Dynapack for parts that will be assembled by Foxconn. It is unclear whether the device will be a convertible laptop or a touchscreen slate. It is expected to retail for about $800. Hopefully this report is true and Apple joins the competition with its own netbook. This will probably occur eventually being Apple is one of the few companies without a netbook offering.
