Prices Rebounding on NAND Flash Chips

Samsung has posted a positive outlook for the current fiscal quarter despite lackluster performance over the last few. A report from iSuppli gives some insight as to why. 16Gb NAND Flash module prices are 127% of what they were in the fourth quarter of 2008. The prices of these chips have been tanking for some time due to the supply being so high. Over the past year, several of the big NAND producers have shut down the fabrication plants where the chips are made, slowing the flow into the market. The reduced supply coupled with increased demand for Solid State Drives are key factors in helping the prices return to what they once were. In addition, the South Korean won has lost some of its value against the dollar, further helping Samsung as it exports many of its products to be sold elsewhere.
