Though it was supposed to be a little while more before the next version of Silverlight was released to the public, Microsoft has officially pushed out version 3.0 for download. The new version supports H.264, AAC, as well as MPEG-4 codecs, which will benefit those who have to encode for numerous platforms. Also in the release is Smooth Streaming that allows users to watch high-definition video content instantly, which was shown off at E3. Microsoft seems to be targeting Adobe as well, with promised out of browser experiences, which sounds a lot like AIR Still however as far as operating system support, it runs on Windows and Macs, though only Intel processors are supported on the Mac side of it. For some reason though, Linux is still yet to be officially supported.
