Apple has officially announced the beginning of a $1 billion data center project that will be located in the city of Maiden, North Carolina. Apple was looking for a location for an East Coast data center to house iTunes and iPhone downloads. The tax incentives passed by the Governor will amount to roughly $46 million over 10 years as long as Apple invests $1 billion over that time into the state. The project will create an estimated 3,000 jobs over the next 10 years as well, in an area hit hard by unemployment. The project could break ground as early as August, and will become the largest data center operated by Apple.
