Back in January 2009, Samsung announced 4Gb DDR3 DRAM memory chips that are built using a 50nm process. These new chips use 40% less power than previous chips and allow for 32GB DIMMs to be produced. Samsung has now delivered those 32GB DIMMs. The new modules are not coming to your desktop just yet, but they will be coming to servers. The new modules run on 1.35V and boast a 20% greater throughput compared to the previous 1.5V modules. The lower voltage also helps conserve power which is a major advantage for large server farms. Each DIMM houses 72 of Samsung's 4Gb DRAM chips in 18 quad-died DDR3s, 9 on each side of the DIMM. No price is yet available, and there isn't any word on when these modules will show up in 8GB versions for desktops.
