Solid state drives are all the rage these days due to their performance and power requirement advantages over standard hard drives. Price and reliability issues still remain but new controllers are being used that address part of these issues. Mounting them in your standard PC case remains a challenge as most don't have native capabilities to accept the 2.5" form factor used by SSDs. Patriot memory has followed up yesterday's announcement of its Corza home NAS server with two additional storage products.

The Convoy series hard drive enclosures are designed to mount two 2.5" drives in the space of a single 3.5" drive bay. The first product in the lineup is the Convoy XL (PCXL25SR). This external HDD enclosure features a built-in RAID controller supporting RAID 0, RAID 1 and JBOD volumes. The aluminum housing contains dual 2.5" hot-swappable SATA drive bays and eSATA and USB 2.0 connections. The Convoy (PC25S) is a non-RAID version that also employs a dual-bay design with locking doors and SATA Interface and is designed to fit in a single 3.5" internal drive bay.

Patriot now seem to be expanding into many areas, who knows what'll be next from them? In the title, 'Launces' > 'Launches'.
