Samsung, manufacturer of electronic devices and SanDisk, manufacturer of data storage and flash memory have renewed their cross license patent. This new patent will become effective as of August 14th 2009, when the old license expires. "The renewal agreements enable Samsung and SanDisk to each focus their energies on restoring flash market growth" which was stated by Dr. Oh-Hyun Kwon who is the president of semiconductors at Samsung electronics. They hope that this will help strengthen the ever growing relationship between Samsung and SanDisk. One problem for SanDisk though, is that fixed payments and royalties are where they get much of their revenue, and now this will be cut in half by the new agreement to only $175 Million unlike the $350 Million which is paid by Samsung.
