Microsoft Confirms Zune HD
After earlier rumors predicting the release of a new Zune, yesterday Microsoft announced the new Zune HD. The player has a bevy of features, some which can be found in the competing iPod Touch, and others that are unique to the player itself. Most notably, the player features multi-touch, WiFi, a 3.3" 16:9 aspect ration OLED touch screen with a resolution of 480x272, HD video out capabilities that can display up to 720p, and HD radio. Yes, you read that right, this is the first PMP to support HD radio. On the software side, the Zune HD has a web browser based upon Internet Explorer, and will be able to use the WiFi to surf the web, browse the Zune store, and use the new and upcoming integration with Xbox Live. The latter feature is still in development, so details are scarce. So far this player is shaping up to be a real winner, one that is sure to produce some sweat under the collars of Cupertino's executives. Naturally, the Zune HD now has its own official site (well, a page for now), which I suspect will bulk out as more details are released.
