Corsair ventured into the SSD (Solid State Drive) market earlier in the year with the release of the 128GB S128, while also promising that more drives would be coming in the future. Today Corsair announced the launch of the 256GB P256, with claims of delivering read speeds of up to 220MB/s and write speeds of up to 200MB/s. The P256 uses both Samsung MLC flash memory and a Samsung Controller, which is paired with 128MB of cache and support for NCQ (Native Command Queuing) that Corsair says enables stutter free performance. As well as providing obvious speed advantages over standard drives, Corsair have measured up to 25% longer battery life with the P256 when used in portable computers. The P256 is available as of now from Corsair authorized distributors and resellers worldwide. Pricing was expected to be in the region of $749 when the drive was previewed in April (you should easily be able to track down some performance numbers with a quick search) but is selling for $669 right now over at Newegg.
