California based ATI add-in-board (AIB) partner PowerColor has unveiled what it calls the 'fastest 4890'. The new factory overclocked PCS+ HD 4890 features an impressive 950MHz core clock and 1100MHz memory speed (4400MHz effective), which is a huge improvement over the 4890 clock speeds of 850MHz (core) and 975MHz/3900MHz effective (memory). A huge overclock needs backing from a good heat sink and PowerColor have worked once again with partner ZEROtherm to create a 'Professional Cooling Solution Plus' (hence the product name PCS+). The PCS+ includes a 52-piece heat fin, 4 heat pipes and black nickel coating for a strong, anti-rust finish. The PCS+ also has an improved fan control to maximize cooling efficiency according to PowerColor. The PCS+ HD 4890 will also be available in a Battle Forge edition bundle, featuring a full version of Battle Forge which has DirectX 10.1 capabilities - a perfect showcase for the might of the 4890! The PCS+ HD4890 will retail at US $249, with the Battle Forge edition retailing for US $5 extra at US $254 and at that price they both look like quite a steal. Both versions will be available on May 5.
