With the new release of the Radeon HD 4890 and the 4770, most people figured that they would not be supported in the new Windows without a update to the operating system. Microsoft however has actually received the drivers that it needs to make sure that the new cards will be supported out of the box, or basically on a fresh install. When the operating system is installed, the integrated drivers in Windows 7 will automatically detect the 4890 and 4770, and properly install them, so that performance is not hindered as it would be without correct software drivers. Obviously, using the most updated drivers would be beneficial, but at least Microsoft will be supporting these new graphics processing units when Windows is copied to the hard drive.

Another thing to note is that Microsoft and AMD have close ties.
