Intel, one of the worlds largest computer processor manufacturers, is now shipping out samples of its Westmere microprocessor to around thirty different desktop and laptop system makers. These companies who receive samples will test the chips, to see if they work correctly with their own products, as well as try and find bugs in the chips that are being used in the testing process. This new processor is based on the Nehalem architecture, used in the Core i7 chips as well as the Xeon 5500 server chips. Eventually, Intel is planning to take itself down the line and spend a good deal of money, around $7 billion, on making its products by using a 32nm manufacturing process. Westmere microprocessors will be used with this process, since the roadmap for the company was recently revamped back in February of this year.
