Clearwire has announced that it plans to offer free access to its 4G wireless network to developers located in Silicon Valley. Clearwire hopes that giving free access to this 20 square mile area full of talented engineers and big companies, like Google, will encourage development of applications that will get more people interested in WiMax. Companies need to apply for the developer program and give a brief description of what they hope to achieve. The developers will have full access to the WiMax network, and will only need to purchase a USB modem for $49.99. Clearwire currently offers WiMax service in Baltimore and Portland, with the hopes of expanding to many more areas in the near future.
