AT&T To Offer Reduced Price Netbooks With Long Term Contract

Cellphone companies have long offered new phones at sharply reduced prices when signing up for a long term contract. The consumer gets the hot new technology at a cheap price, and the company gets guaranteed business. AT&T is extending this into the netbook realm with a new promotion, currently available in Atlanta and Philadelphia only. With this promotion, customers will be able to get a new netbook for as low as $50. The catch? A two-year subscription for a wireless data plan and a home DSL connection totaling $60 a month. For those of you who already have wireless and home internet, it would be a much better idea to just buy a netbook.

That's great... a $50 netbook end up at all most $1,500... or you could go anywhere and get a netbook w/ no contract for $300-500.
