That is correct people, there is now a new way to unlock the 4th core on AMD's Phenom II X3, and that is by going over to the green camp. What do you need? You need the GIGABYTE GA-M720- US3 motherboard using the Beta BIOS F3F, along with 4th week 2009 AMD Phenom II X3 (batch code 0904). If you are one of those lucky users with this combo of motherboard and CPU, head on over to HWBOX.gr now! Note that other motherboards and chipsets may work as well.

Are X3's and X4 with a bad core? Why would you want to unlock the bad core? Wouldn't AMD sell it as an X4 to make more money if they could, but the bad core forces them to sell it as X3?

It's a faulty core. There is a fifty percent chance it's stable...and there is a fifty percent chance it isn't. It's like an AMD Phenom II X4 925 with 1 core disabled.

Not all of the cores are bad. And not everyone buys the x4. AMD chipsets can unlock the core as well
