For the first time, Firefox 3.0 has become the most popular web browser in Europe. Last week it overtook Internet Explorer 7.0 in popularity, by about half of a percent. However, these results are a bit misleading; if you consider all versions of Internet Explorer against all Firefox releases, Microsoft's option comes out on top. Only when you break the charts down into versions does Firefox win.
Globally Firefox 3.0 not only lags ten percent behind Internet Explorer 7.0, but even the earlier version, IE 6.0 has a three percent lead in usage. These results might gradually change after the release of Windows 7, which gives users the option to completely disable Internet Explorer.
