Super Talent has just announced their newest line of solid state drives known as RAIDDrive. The drives use a PCI Express 2.0 x8 slot and provide up to 2TB of storage. Either MLC or SLC Nand Flash memory is used depending on the price level of the drive. The line boasts superb speeds with sequential read speeds up to 1.2GB/s and sequential write speeds up to 1.3GB/s. The line offers three levels of drives: RAIDDrive ES (Enterprise Servers), RAIDDrive WS (Workstation), and RAIDDrive GS (Gamers). The RAIDDrive ES is designed for computation intensive applications and includes a battery which will prevent data loss during a power outage. An additional feature will allow users to enable an internal RAID 5 array to back up data.
The press release has been confirmed by SuperTalent, but as they informed me, the product probably won't be marketable until Quarter 3 of the current fiscal year.
More and more SSDs are starting to utilize PCI Express slots instead of SATA connections. Seems as though everything will eventually end up mounted to the motherboard.
